Chatunga (29), Terence Johannes Chinyemba (31), Fredson Peter (33), Solomon Pamire (34) and Munashe Mubhawo (43) appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai facing robbery and malicious damage to property charges.
The five were remanded in custody to Friday for bail consideration.
According to court papers, the alleged attack occurred on November 3 at Brompton Guest Lodge, where security guard Lloyd Panyika Mapanduki (42) was on duty.
The State alleges that the accused assaulted Mapanduki with slaps and broomsticks, leaving him with a deep cut on his forehead.
During the attack, they allegedly stole his Norinco Star pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition and took his Samsung A56 cellphone before smashing it on the ground.
Mapanduki was reportedly rushed to hospital after losing a significant amount of blood.
Police later arrested the five suspects and recovered the stolen firearm from Chinyemba’s possession at the lodge.
The State is opposing bail, arguing that the accused could abscond, interfere with witnesses or commit further offences if released.
Police also raised concerns over other pending criminal cases allegedly linked to the accused and fears that witnesses could be pressured to change their statements.
The State expects to call six witnesses as investigations continue.
